Chimpanzees, often colloquially chimps, are a species of great ape. They reside in the jungles of Africa from Senegal to Tanzania. Chimps are omnivorous, although they eat fruit and termites, they will also hunt other animals, particularly small antelope and other primates such as colobus monkeys. Chimpanzees are an endangered species; humans destroy their habitat and kill them for the bushmeat trade and capture the infants to be sold as pets. Chimps have few natural enemies, though they may fall prey to leopards. Along with the closely related bonobo, chimps are our closest living relative in the animal kingdom, sharing 98.9% of our DNA.
