Darwin Plays the Palace is the fourth episode of The Wild Thornberrys's second season which was first broadcast on August 19, 1999.

Summary[]

When Eliza gets a hunch that foul play has led to Darwin's disappearance, she sets out to rescue her long lost companion.

To her dismay, she finds Darwin has become one of the most popular acts at an Indian palace where a young prince lives. It's up to her to prove to Darwin that friendship runs deeper than the glamour and glitz of showbiz.

Volkswagen Type 2[]

Kip and Biederman have a van in poor condition that looks like a Volkswagen Kombi. Even the shield of the car bears an "N" in the same style as the VW emblem.

Darwin was asked by Biederman if he had gone on vacation to the south of France.

Rupees[]

Darwin is said to have been paid thousands of rupees by the Rajah. Indian rupees are the country's official currency.

Mongooses and cobras[]

A mongoose helps Eliza escape by fighting a cobra. It is well known that mongooses, particularly Indian gray mongooses, can kill venomous snakes, including cobras.

Cows[]

When the Thornberrys are looking for Eliza and Darwin, they come across a pregnant cow on the side of the road. Nigel also mentions that they should be cautious with her since she is considered a sacred animal. As of 2005, 20 out of 28 Indian states prohibit the slaughter of cows and even the consumption of their meat.

Kasbah[]

To escape the prince, Eliza says she must go to the Kasbah. In other words, a Kasbah is a fort or citadel.

Bengaluru Palace[]

Once released, Tandori the First says he must attend an inaugural event at the Bengaluru Palace. Maharani Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, wife of a Maharajah (monarch), owned the Bengaluru Palace.
